SIBU SOREN AND NEMESIS

Finally the nemesis seems to have caught up with the high-profile JMM Supremo Sibu Soren in the form of the punishment of Life Imprisonment in the by now famous Shahsinath Jha Case. He has earned notoriety in the history for being the first Cabinet Minister to sentenced to life imprisonment by the judiciary. Very few people had heard about the ongoing proceedings of Shahsinath Jha Case from the Court rooms through the fourth pillar of the democracy. The media attention was too low for the readers to know about this serious-but-not-sensational case till the learned judge found the JMM Supremo and his four accomplices guilty of brutally murdering his own Aide.

The fait of the hapless family for justice in their fight against an all powerful Goliath like politician like Sibu Soren can be understood by any one. But few journalists recognized and felt it necessary to attach any media attention and report this proceeding seriously. Any way, that is the depth of journalism in India at present.

The chief beneficiary of this judgment is the CBI, which has been maligned ad nauseum ad infinitum for faux passes The CBI has reasons to draw satisfaction from their success. This underscores the fact that given a freehand the country’s premier investigation agency can deliver the goods and bring the perpetrators to the book.

However, some sections of the political class has the audacity to call for a bandh against CBI, which is a direct indictment on the judgment and an indirect assault against the judiciary. This is yet another instance for the contempt the political class has for the judiciary. The politicians are long back convinced that the rule of the law is only for the ordinary citizens and not for them as they have countless privileges and security firewalls as the representative of the people.

The political class had better remember that they can escape from the iron grip of the nemesis only temporarily and not for ever.
