It is unpardonable in all religions to display cruelty to the children, women and the aged. Some senior officials of the Gujarat Police have perpetrated this heinous crime of raping a hapless woman and burning her after killing her husband in a cold-blooded murder. The self-proclaimed saviours of the Hinduism of Gujarat ought to refrain from justifying such criminal acts which do not have the sanction of any religion if their vouchsafing on the religion is honest. This heinous crime is not a political allegation or a sensational journalistic scoop but came to light through the own admission of the Modi Government. Mr. Modi, who has escaped unscathingly on all previous occasions unhurt including the infamous pogroms, has no moral authority to cling to his chair after this unpardonable offence. In any other state the Chief Minister would have been compelled to relinquish from the honourable seat he has been occupying. This is not happening in Gujarat because the secular voice and all kinds of political dissent appear to have been stifled in the state. Any dissent is viewed as an attack on the Gujarati Asmita. Even the educated people seek to justify and glorify Mr.Modi as the Crown Jewel Chief Minister only because of the rapid industrial growth the state has achieved during his tenure. In fact, he can claim the credit for this only partly as the people of Gujarat were always industrious and enterprising. The first and foremost duty of every Ruler is to uphold the Rajdharma as rightly pointed out by the then Prime Minister Shri AB Vajpayee during the communal pogrom. Protecting the subjects ruled by a Raja is accorded the priority in the Rajdharma. This is but everything is happening under Mr.Modi. So whatever achievements he has achieved will be overshadowed by such persecution of innocents. Any victory thus achieved will be short-lived .But, then, it is better to remember that these are steamroller victories where every one is a loser and not winner because in democracies there is no room for such short-lived successes. The history records all the (mis)deeds with a vengeance. Mr. Modi had better remember this.
