The General Elections India 2009

The General Elections 2009 is going to be an uphill task for the Indian political parties for various reasons. The explosion of electronic media and its outsized reach have astonishingly increased the awareness of the Indian electorates. On a platter, the Indian media has like never before served before the masses the deprivation and exploitation of the Indians. The media has also highlighted as to how the Indian politicians are taking the electorates for holy rides under some pretext or other. Hence the whole credit for making this election an acid test for the arch Indian Artful Dodgers goes to the media which played the role of a catalyst.
Even as the Indian electorate is disenchanted with the politicos, the political parties have no qualms in cobbling together alliances forgetting the public dirty linen washing they indulged in till a few weeks before. The national parties are unfortunately ready for even a marriage of convenience with regional parties disregarding the danger such regional outfits are posing for the unity and integrity of the republic. For the parties, the end justifies the means, in election too. This is due to the erosion of values in public life. The present leaders, unfortunately, lack vision and foresight. Barring a few like Mr AK Antony, the erstwhile LS Speaker Mr Somnath Chatterjee, et al, today’s Indian leaders look like pale shadows of the towering leaders of yesteryears.
