Dance Of Military Junta In Myanmar

The military junta of Myanmar has been thumping its nose at the entire world for quite some time in not releasing the pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The administration has the temerity to turn its back to international outrage and frantic calls for her release citing it as a domestic political issue rather than as a human rights violation. The draconian military junta has no fear for the increasing international ostracism and opinion turning against it for reasons known only to the ruthless dictators. The Myanmar citizens seeking restoration of democracy and republican order are at serious pains in watching a helpless international community’s failure to show the ruthless dictators the reason and make them respect the basic human rights.
The entire world is watching the goings-on with serious concern and anxiety as well since this time the unkind rulers are undoubtedly going to eliminate the sane voice of Myanmar in the name of justice and rule of law which are conspicuous by their absence there. If the mounting international pressure fails to secure her release and political freedom for her this time of the century when in so many countries around the world the dance of democracy has been highly gratifying, it can only be termed as world-disorder. The influential countries and the self-avowed champions of human rights have a moral obligation to champion the cause of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi before it is too late. India, as the largest functioning democracy of the world, has an added responsibility to drive sense into the heads of the ruthless rulers there to respect the sane voices of the world and spare her of the hardships merely for espousing the cause of democracy. They can enlist the public support for themselves the forthcoming elections in the next year if they have nothing to fear and hide from the public. But then it appears like asking for the moon.
