In beating the in-form Sri Lanka by comprehensively defeating it at Wankhede and claiming the World Title eluding India since 1983, the Team India has maintained its new-found team-spirit and winning streak since defeating the defending champions Australia. For India, it is a double-bonanza on international Cricket scene – first, this world cup will remain a parting gift for the little master – Sachin Tendulkar and secondly, this ends the Indian Cricket lovers’ wait for the cup. The young capable Indian Skipper Mahindra Singh can be proud of the achievement even as this emphatic win adds a large feather to the cap of his powerful captaincy. To the utter disbelief of the Indian Cricket devotees, the Team India has amazingly outplayed Sri Lanka by batting intelligently. Though the two early wickets of Sehwag and the Master Blaster damped the spirits, a spirited Gambhir laid foundation for India’s win with his intelligent bating. The captain Dhoni at last played a captain’s innings superbly with cautious optimism and resurged spirit. The Indian bowlers did their best in restricting the Sri Lankan lions in the early overs which denied the visitors a challenging total of 300 plus. The whole country is indebted to Dhoni’s Team India for securing the Cricket World Cup for India which has lifted the spirit as well as the morale of the 1210.2 million countrymen which was sagging for quite some time with so many scams and scandals in the media. At last, we have something to cheer about being an Indian. The young Team India has given us an opportunity to be cheerful about amidst the chaos.
