Doctor, Cure Yourself.

The Union Health Minister's proposal to compel the doctors going abroad for further studies to sing to return the country cannot be faulted though it may be viewed as wrong prescription. This ‘poor’ nation spends a huge sum to produce a doctor. This is not to serve the rich countries. The free flow of the doctors is a serious kind of drain of brain and resources. The republic is producing the doctors to serve the nation of 120 crores plus population out of which the majority is below the poverty line for whom even one time square meal is a luxury. Those doctors migrate to filthy rich nations are not only going there to pursue their academic interests but are in search of greener pastures. In fact, the countries like the US, UK, etc, are using India as a recruiting ground for the best brains in medicine. If all the best doctors leave India, what is left with India is only those either minority who did not choose to migrate or could not make it to the the El Dorado. All those doctors who have become so due to heavy subsidy have a moral obligation to serve the less fortunate brethren of the republic. All other arguments against the proposed bond-obligation are not only untenable but also skewed and oblique half-truths to facilitate large-scale migration after enjoying the fruits of the public spending in medical educational cost. Apart from this, these arguments are self-serving and pro-rich.
