In participating largely in the Assembly Elections, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have yet again reaffirmed their paramount faith in the Indian Union. This underscores the inherent strength of the Indian democracy. Though some of the Indian demagogues do let down the republic at periodic intervals, the people of this great nation have always demonstrated far greater resilience and responsibility when it comes to solving the issues. The whole election process appreciably conducted by the Election Commission and enthusiastically participated by the Kashmiri Electorate is an appropriate reply to the Pakistan’s War Rhetoric and proof before the world about India’s credentials as a peace loving nation.
Following this, the Pak claims about the Kashmir Controversy Theory stands badly exposed. This has also delivered a body blow to the secessionist elements who owe allegiance to their political masters across the border – their election boycott call has been boycotted by the general public, clearly sending out a clear and loud message across the board. The terrorists had better read the writing on the wall.
The fractured verdict also contains a lesson for the local politicians - to rise above the petty politics and rise to the regional aspirations of the people. In fact, the Kashmiris, like the Indians elsewhere, aspire for quick development of the region. They want their basic needs to be met at the earliest before it is too late.
In the final analysis, no clairvoyance is required to say that it is the much maligned Indian Democracy and the more- sinned- than- sinning Indian Secularism which will gain ultimately from the peaceful conduct and credible outcome of the Kashmir Polls. Mr ManMohan Singh can surely pat on his back for achieving this unimaginable feat despite the threat of violence by the anti-India elements in Kashmir, and the heightened tension there following the Temple Land Controversy.
